400 Level Error Code Descriptions

The 400-level error codes (codes 400 - 499) are returned in the TU4.0 or TU4.1 fixed format response (FFR) due to invalid data in the subject identification (name or address, for example) segments.

400 More name data is needed; check input for full name.
  • Recheck input data to ensure that required input fields were entered and segments are properly formatted.
  • Refer to the TU4.0 User Guide or TU4.1 User Guide for more information.
401 Surname missing or invalid.
  • Refer to the TU4.0 User Guide or TU4.1 User Guide for proper Name segment specifications.
  • Note: Last name and other indicative information must be in all capital letters.
  • Resend transaction.
403 First name missing or invalid.
  • Refer to the TU4.0 User Guide or TU4.1 User Guide for proper Name segment specifications.
  • Note: First name and other indicative information must be in all capital letters.
  • Resend transaction.
407 SSN missing or invalid.
408 Record ID missing or invalid.
409 At least one valid address is required on input.
  • Occurs when there is not an address provided on input or the address provided is invalid.
  • Check input and resend transaction.
410 More address data is needed; check input for house number or street type.
413 Current address street name missing or invalid.
415 Current address city name missing or invalid.

  • Check to ensure city data is in all UPPERCASE.
  • Resend transaction.
417 Current address state code missing or invalid.
419 Current address ZIP Code missing or invalid.
421 Address number in previous address house number missing or invalid.
423 Previous address delivery address text missing or invalid.
425 Previous address city name missing or invalid.
427 Previous address state code missing or invalid.
431 Employer name missing or invalid.
435 Current address unit number invalid.
447 Telephone number invalid.
448 Phone area code invalid.
449 Middle name invalid.
451 Current address street direction invalid.
453 Current address street type invalid.
454 Birth date missing or invalid. Recheck input data to insure that required input fields were entered and segments are properly formatted.
456 Driver’s License and State Issues missing or invalid. Recheck input data to insure that required input fields were entered and segments are properly formatted.
458 Invalid VIN (Vehicle Identification Number). See Vehicle Information segment description and recheck input data to insure that valid VIN was entered.
459 California AB-156—at least three pieces of identifying information must be present in input. See Vehicle Information segment description and recheck input data to ensure that valid VIN was entered.
461 Account Reporting Review: subscriber / inquiry link not established.
  • Refer to the TU4.0 User Guide or TU4.1 User Guide for proper Reporting Subscriber segment specifications.
  • Resend transaction.
  • If the situation persists, contact the TransUnion Global Service Desk.
463 Missing or invalid policy number or quote ID. Occurs when the Policy Number or Quote ID in the Policy segment is missing or invalid. Check input and resend transaction.
466 Subscriber-Inquiry link not active. Review Reporting Subscriber segment, update and resend transaction.
467 Underwriting state missing or invalid. Recheck input data to ensure that required input fields were entered or properly formatted. Review product details or contact TransUnion Global Service Desk if further assistance is needed.
472 Customer identifier missing or invalid.
473 Customer identifier qualifier missing or invalid.
  • Refer to the TU4.0 User Guide or TU4.1 User Guide for proper Reporting Customer Data segment specifications.
  • Ensure you have the CD01 segment coded if you are using the TransUnion Net Access (TUNA) connectivity method.
  • Resend transaction.
474 Application missing or invalid. Review your TransUnion Net Access settings.
475 Digital Certificate missing or invalid. Review your TransUnion Net Access settings.
476 Net ID missing or invalid. Review your TransUnion Net Access settings.
477 Insufficient Input to call fraud detect. Review TruValidate Fraud Detect / Fraud ID-Tect service description.
478 Insufficient input.
  • Recheck input data to ensure that required input fields for the service requested were entered and segments are properly formatted.
  • Refer to the TU4.0 User Guide or TU4.1 User Guide for proper specifications for all segments.
479 Invalid City/State combination. Recheck input data to ensure that required input fields were entered and segments are properly formatted.
484 Input Vendor data does not match file vendor data. Recheck input data to ensure that required input fields were entered and segments are properly formatted.
485 TU token missing or invalid. The TU token is case sensitive. Both the values and the case of the values must exactly match the existing token. Recheck input data to insure that required input fields were entered and segments are properly formatted.
499 Undefined error in subject identification field or internal error. Notify the TransUnion Global Service Desk.
