Security Freeze

State Security Freeze Laws

Many states have passed security freeze laws.  These laws require consumer credit reporting agencies to accept and apply written requests from residents of the particular state for a security freeze.

If a security freeze is present on a consumer's file, information from the file cannot be returned to a subscriber unless 1) the subscriber has an exempted use, or 2) the consumer has lifted the security freeze.
